IV Sedation Dentist in Glasgow: Sedation for Calm, Comfortable Care

For longer implant surgery, or if dental treatment makes you anxious. You stay awake and able to respond, but deeply relaxed, and most people remember little of it afterwards.

IV sedation £500 per session, and £250 for each additional 30 minutes.

Who It Helps

Sedation is offered alongside local anaesthetic, never instead of it.

Full-arch and longer implant procedures
Dental anxiety, from mild nerves to real fear
A strong gag reflex
Several treatments combined into one visit

When It May Not Be Suitable

We'll talk it through with you before booking.

Pregnancy or breastfeeding
Some medical conditions and medicines. We check your history at assessment
If you can't arrange an adult to take you home

How It Works

Conscious sedation, given through a small cannula in your hand or arm and monitored throughout by a trained team.

1

Assessment

Medical history, blood pressure and a conversation about what worries you. Usually at your consultation.

2

Before the Day

A light meal beforehand is fine. Arrange an adult to bring you, wait, and take you home.

3

During Treatment

Your breathing, pulse and oxygen levels are monitored the whole time. You can still respond to your dentist.

4

Afterwards

Rest at home for the day. No driving, alcohol, machinery or important decisions for 24 hours.

What It Feels Like

Most people describe feeling calm, warm and a little sleepy. Time seems to pass quickly, and many remember little or nothing of the treatment afterwards.

You can still hear us, answer questions and follow simple instructions, like opening a little wider. The area being treated is numbed with local anaesthetic as usual, so you won't feel pain.

Is it safe? Conscious sedation is widely used in UK dental practices. A trained team monitors your breathing, pulse and oxygen levels throughout, and emergency equipment is kept on site, as it is in every dental practice.

Treatments Often Done with Sedation

Almost any treatment can be done with sedation if you're anxious. These are the most common.

Full-Arch Implants

Implant surgery for a whole arch in one longer visit, with time passing quickly.

Dental Implants

Single implants and bone grafting, for anyone who'd rather not be fully aware.

Implant-Retained Dentures

Placing the implants that will hold your denture in place.

Wisdom Teeth

Surgical removal of wisdom teeth, which many people dread.

Several Treatments at Once

Combining treatment into fewer, longer visits, so you come in less often.

Dental Anxiety

Fillings, root canals or crowns you've put off because of nerves.

Will I be asleep?–
No. Conscious sedation isn't a general anaesthetic. You'll be deeply relaxed and may drift, but you stay able to respond, and most people remember very little of the treatment afterwards. Without sedation, local anaesthetic keeps you comfortable while you're awake.
